Patriots Make a  Move to Replace David Andrews New England About to Land Vikings Center

Patriots Look to Replace David Andrews: Are They Targeting a Vikings Center?

The New England Patriots are in the midst of a significant rebuild, and one of their most pressing concerns is solidifying the offensive line. With long-time center David Andrews nearing the end of his career and dealing with injury concerns, speculation is swirling that the Patriots may be looking for his replacement. Recent reports suggest that New England could be targeting a Minnesota Vikings center as part of their restructuring efforts.

David Andrews’ Future in New England

David Andrews has been a staple of the Patriots’ offensive line since signing as an undrafted free agent in 2015. A team captain and two-time Super Bowl champion, he has been one of the most reliable centers in the NFL. However, at 32 years old and with multiple injuries over the past few seasons, his durability is becoming a concern. The Patriots may now be looking at a long-term replacement.

While Andrews remains under contract, the team could decide to bring in competition or a potential successor through free agency or trade. The Vikings, who have a deep offensive line group, could be a logical trade partner.

Patriots’ History of Targeting Vikings’ Linemen

This wouldn’t be the first time the Patriots have looked to the Vikings for offensive line help. In recent years, New England has made multiple moves involving Minnesota linemen:

  • In 2023, the Patriots traded for offensive tackle Vederian Lowe to bolster their depth at the position.
  • In November 2024, they signed guard Tyrese Robinson off the Vikings’ practice squad.
  • The Patriots have also worked out several former Minnesota linemen over the years.

Given this history, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Patriots looked to the Vikings once again for help on the interior offensive line.

Who Could the Patriots Target?

If the Patriots are indeed looking at the Vikings’ roster for a potential Andrews replacement, one name that stands out is Garrett Bradbury. The 2019 first-round pick has been a reliable starter for Minnesota and is under contract through 2025. While Bradbury has had an up-and-down career, he has shown solid pass protection and athleticism in run blocking.

Another potential target could be Austin Schlottmann, a veteran interior lineman who has filled in at center and guard. Schlottmann would provide depth and could serve as a bridge if the Patriots plan to draft a young center in the upcoming NFL Draft.

What’s Next for New England?

The Patriots’ offensive line struggled in 2024, leading to inconsistent quarterback play and a lackluster rushing attack. Upgrading the center position, whether this season or next, will be a priority. If Andrews remains healthy and productive, he may stay in the starting role for another season. However, the team will likely seek a long-term plan at the position.

While nothing is confirmed yet, all signs indicate that New England is preparing for the post-Andrews era. Whether they land a Vikings center or look elsewhere, expect movement in the coming weeks as the Patriots reshape their offensive line.
