Raiders OC calls offense ‘patchy’

Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator Luke Getsy told reporters on Thursday that the team is working to “get the ship righted” heading into their matchup Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.

“We’re in a new system. New players. First-time head coach,” Getsy said during a press conference accessed via the Raiders website. “We’re all working together to get this ship righted, to get this thing going in her right direction. It’s a process that continues to improve.

The Raiders (2-6) start games well, outscoring the opposition 38-33.

It’s what happens after the first quarter, which has been a problem for the Raiders.

Opponents outscore Las Vegas 177-106 in the final three quarters.

The second quarter remains the biggest issue. The Raiders have given up 69 points in the second while only scoring 25.

“It’s a focus and attention to detail,” Getsy said. “As far as the preparation part of it, [our starts] prove we’re doing a good job in terms of how we want to attack people. We just have to continue to improve on that execution part and sustain it for four quarters and not be kind of patchy.”

While much of the focus will be on the offense, defensive coordinator Patrick Graham said his defense’s job remains the same: keeping the opposing team from scoring and giving his offense the best chance to win.

“Our part, as a defense, is to keep them from having less points than our offense,” Graham told reporters on Thursday. “That’s our part. “That’s all that matters.

“That job description will never change for us. I don’t care how many points we got to keep them down to.”
