Real Madrid has decided to try and sign another Premier League star according to AS, which cited anonymous sources.
The Spanish and European champions have been strongly linked to one of the homegrown stars of the English top flight’s current leaders Liverpool in Trent Alexander Arnold.
According to MARCA, also citing anonymous sources, the Reds already know that ‘TAA’ wants to play for the club that beat it in the 2018 and 2022 Champions League finals, and he can do so by letting his contract expire on June 30 next year and then heading south to the Iberian Peninsula to try his luck in La Liga.
Landing the England international provides a long-term solution to problems at right back, where Ballon d’Or candidate Dani Carvajal is aging and currently out injured for the rest of the season.
Lucas Vazquez is neither a natural in the position nor a spring chicken considering he turns 34 on the day Alexander Arnold should sign for Los Blancos. In the latter player, head coach Carlo Ancelotti could boast one of the best players capable of the role found anywhere in world soccer.
Injuries suffered by Eder Militao and David Alaba have also exposed how threadbare Ancelotti’s squad is at center back, however, and in this regard Madrid has reportedly set its sights on one of the Premier League’s most promising talents in this area of the pitch.
