Real Madrid’s setback at Anfield against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League now seems less painful, as the team, which has been struggling with a wave of injuries, is beginning to see a glimmer of hope in LaLiga.
Since their historic 0-4 loss to Barcelona in the El Clasico at Santiago Bernabeu, Hansi Flick’s team has only managed to gather four points out of the 12 available.
They secured a win against Espanyol, suffered a defeat against Real Sociedad, drew against Celta Vigo, and surprisingly lost at home to Las Palmas.
Barcelona’s six-point lead at the top of the table, which had widened after the Clasico, has now been trimmed to just four points.
Time to take on the leaders
Interestingly, it must be noted that Real Madrid still have two more games to play. Tonight, they will face Getafe at home and a win would reduce the gap to just one point behind the leaders.
It is also important to note that Real Madrid still have a postponed match from round 12 against Valencia at Mestalla. This game was originally delayed due to the severe DANA storm that affected various regions of the Valencian Community.
While no official date has been set yet, it’s expected that the match will be played on January 2.
If Real Madrid can secure victories over Getafe at home and Valencia away, they will leapfrog Barcelona and take the top spot in La Liga, with a perfect record since that disappointing Clasico.
This turn of events would undoubtedly give the team a much-needed confidence boost, as they continue to fight for the league title amid a challenging season
