Red Sox Facing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Decision After $600 Million Report

Posted on February 27, 2025 by admin

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr. did not agree to a contract extension before his self-imposed deadline, and is prepared to enter free agency after the 2025 MLB season. Despite his strong 2024 campaign, Guerrero said the Blue Jays did not come close to his desired contract (via ESPN’s Jeff Passan). Finishing sixth in American League MVP voting, Guerrero drove in 103 runs while posting a 166 OPS+ that ranked fifth in baseball. Still just 25 years old, Guerrero will enter free agency at the same age Juan Soto did this offseason before signing a 15-year, $765 million contract with the New York Mets. Appearing on a Bleacher Report stream, Jon Heyman of the New York Post said a team is “gonna have to be in the sixes” to sign Guerrero. “At this point with Soto at $765 million, I think it’s probably gonna have to be in the sixes to sign [Guerrero],” Heyman said. “I think probably $600 million, plus.” Given this number, who are the favorites to sign Guerrero? According to Heyman, it’s the Blue Jays, New York Mets and Boston Red Sox. This leaves Boston with a real opportunity, but also a big decision to make.
