Fans of the Boston Red Sox are hoping for a legendary offseason from their team, and hope free agency is the answer for their prayers. The fans have listed out four players the Sox should get, that would make them the divisional favorites.
Max Fried, Atlanta Brave LHP
Fried has been a top target for the Sox for a while now. Fried started in 29 games, and posted a record of 11-10, an ERA of 3.25, and struck out 166 batters.
The Red Sox also have a severe lack of left-handed pitching, especially in the starting rotation. Fried could knock out the ace problem and lefty problem.
Garrett Crochet, Chicago White Sox LHP
Crochet would be a great secondary starting pitching pickup after Fried. With the White Sox, had a 3.58 ERA, a 6-12 record, and 209 strikeouts, which was the seventh-most strikeouts in the MLB.
Crochet being a lefty also contributes to fixing the Sox’s problem like Fried would, but Crochet was on an innings restriction, so going longer is an unknown variable for the Sox. Getting both of them would be great, but Fried should be the first option.
Teoscar Hernandez, LA Dodgers OF/DH
Coming off a World Series win, Hernandez is once again hitting the market. Sox fans and management have been interested in him for a while, and he could be a great pickup.
In the regular season, he hit .272/.339/.501/.840, with 32 doubles, 33 home runs and 99 RBI. He could be an excellent outfielder and DH for the Sox, as it seems they are letting an outfielder/DH walk.
Scott was one of the best relievers in baseball last year. This season, he has a 1.75 ERA, a 9-6 record, 22 saves, and 84 strikeouts. With the Sox losing their closer and some of their set-up men, Scott would be a fine pickup.
Scott is also another lefty, which the bullpen also lacks in, but still has some of unlike the starters. It would still be good to get a quality lefty like Scott.
In the end, these are predictions based on what fans want, and not necessarily what the front office will do. The offseason is just beginning, and anything is possible.
