COLLEGE STATION — Texas football earned itself a place in the SEC Championship Game with a victory over Texas A&M on Saturday.

And its coach, Steve Sarkisian, earned himself a nice payday.

Qualifying for the conference title game entitles Sarkisian to a $150,000 bonus, according to his contract. If the Longhorns beat Georgia next Saturday in Atlanta, he’ll get another $150,000.

The touchdown was awarded after a review of the play.

Sarkisian’s base salary for the 2024 campaign is $10.6 million, which ranks third nationally among coaches whose salaries are publicly available. Only Clemson’s Dabo Swinney and Georgia’s Kirby Smart are entitled to more.

Sarkisian’s contract was extended over the winter after he led the Longhorns to the College Football Playoff during the 2023 season.

With Saturday’s 17-7 win over the Aggies at Kyle Field, Texas all but secured a second consecutive CFP appearance. When that becomes official, Sarkisian will be owed another bonus of $250,000.
