We’re exactly five weeks away from the National Hockey League’s trade deadline for the 2024-25 season and it looks like things will be heating up on the J.T. Miller front soon.
It’s been know for a little while now that J.T. Miller would prefer to be dealt to a team in on the East Coast of the United States, but teams in the Western Conference continue to show interest with the March 7th deadline looming.
J.T. Miller reportedly changes his trade preferences ahead of March 7th deadline
Trade rumors surrounding J.T. Miller have cooled off just a tad in the last week or so, but in order to get things going, it appears that the Vancouver Canucks forward is open to other teams not just on the US East Coast.
On Friday’s edition of the 32 Thoughts podcast, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman shared that Miller is open to other areas of the country and won’t reject a trade purely for geographical reasons.
Friedman also mentioned that the Colorado Avalanche are a potential landing spot for the 31-year-old.
Rumors of Colorado’s interest in J.T. Miller first came out on Thursday when Rick Dhaliwal mentioned the possibility of him heading to the Mile High City.
“”Yeah I think Colorado could be a possibility there and I do want to say this…a few years ago, Vancouver and Colorado held trade talks about Miller and Newhook and Byram would’ve been the centerpiece coming back. I don’t know why the deal didn’t take place, but they were along a couple years ago on Miller. So they have a history of talking to Colorado about Miller.” Dhaliwal said.
He added, “But I just wonder about Colorado and the possibility and I wonder if Miller would go there. Remember, he said East Coast USA, but when you go to a franchise like Colorado and you’ve got Makar and you got MacKinnon, you think, that’s a pretty damn good spot to be in.”
Following Colorado’s trade last Friday that sent Finnish star Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes, with the Avalanche landing Martin Necas, the team could look to bring Miller in to be their second line centerman.
