The Vancouver Canucks franchise history has its fair share of low moments and today’s 5-4 loss to the Seattle Kraken is another addition to the list.
For 55 minutes they controlled play, took a 4-1 lead, and looked like they were going to easily take two points against the Kraken. Then everything changed.
The visitors ended up winning in overtime. It was the first time in franchise history the Canucks blew a three-goal lead with less than five minutes left in regulation.
“Honestly it’s pretty devastating. We should never be losing that game, let alone letting it get to overtime,” said Jake DeBrusk.
“We have to stick together in here as a team. We’re all going through it together…anytime that we have a two goal lead late, that’s got to be automatic and that’s what we’re pushing for.”
“This one slipped away. These ones hurt but you’ve got to come back tomorrow and have a good practice,” said Rick Tocchet.
“That’s just the way the world is. We have to pick some guys up, I’m sure a couple of individuals don’t feel good about themselves but we’ve got to make sure they’ve got energy for tomorrow and be ready for the next game.”
The Canucks made several devastating mistakes late in the third period which led directly to goals against. The defence corps, playing without the injured Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek, struggled more and more as the game went on.
The Kraken hadn’t scored more than two goals in any of their previous five games. They managed to get five against the Canucks with four of them coming late.
