Victoria Beckham is known for her extravagant fashion tastes – and it seems being extremely fashionable is something she always aspired to achieve even as a child
Victoria Beckham has explained she loved fashion so much as a child she used an old designer carrier bag at school.
The 50-year-old former Spice Girl found fame in music before changing focus to invest in her own fashion brand – which has struggled over the years. But she has explained that her lust for fashion exists for almost as long as she can remember and saw her collecting designer label items as she longed to have expensive possessions.
Vicky – who launched her own fashion company in 2008 – explained how she loved the aesthetic of fashion in everything from perfume bottles to carrier bags. Discussing her obsession with the new Disney+ documentary In Vogue: The 90s, the Out Of Your Mind singer said, “When I was a little girl I lived in Hertfordshire. I loved brands, I loved the idea of luxury.
“My mum’s friend used to wear a lot of Chanel fragrance. When she finished it she would drain the bottle and give it to me I used to put them all out on my window because I loved how they looked. I remember one time she gave me the empty bottles in a plastic Gucci carrier bag. I would carry my school books in this Gucci carrier bag every day until the bottom fell out. I felt so special.”
She added: “In the [Spice Girls] Mama video I was wearing a pair of Tom Ford Gucci trousers and there was a slit detail in the trousers, and a little bikini top. It was sexy for a video I was in with my mum, which was bizarre but it didn’t matter, because it was Gucci.” Victoria, who has been married to David Beckham since 1999, also reflected on the beginning of her relationship with the 49-year-old footballer all those years ago. She revealed how he tried to impress her with some fashion styling of his own.
