Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Monday that the team was taking the struggles and the future of rookie kicker Brayden Narveson “day to day.”
Apparently, he meant one day.
The Packers worked out veteran kicker Brandon McManus Tuesday and signed him for the rest of the season. Narveson was released after missing the most field goals in the league this season — five.
McManus has made at least 80% of his field goals in seven of his 10 seasons and has led kickers in points twice.
Here’s a bit more about McManus:
How old is Brandon McManus?
He’s 33.
Where is Brandon McManus from?
He was born in Philadelphia and went to North Penn High School, about 25 miles from Philadelphia.
Where did Brandon McManus go to college?
McManus attended Temple University from 2009 through 2012 and holds school records for points scored (338), field goals made (60), field goals attempted (83) and punting average (45.3). He earned All-Big East first-team honors after leading the team in scoring his senior season.
Was Brandon McManus drafted?
No, McManus wasn’t selected in the 2013 draft. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts but was waived during training camp. The New York Giants signed him in 2014 and traded him to the Denver Broncos at the end of the preseason. McManus spent the next nine seasons with the Broncos, although he was waived in the middle of the 2014 season and then won the job for good in 2015.
How many teams has Brandon McManus played for?
In addition to his time with the Broncos, McManus spent one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, in 2023, and led NFL kickers in field goals and points. In 2024, he signed a one-year deal with Washington, but was released after sexual assault and harassment allegations were made against him.
What happened with the sexual assault and harassment allegations against Brandon McManus?
He was accused of sexual assault and harassment against two flight attendants during the Jaguars’ overseas trip to London last season. According to a lawsuit, the two flight attendants said the flight “pretty quickly turned into a party” after takeoff, and McManus was accused of violating the attendants’ personal space, air-travel safety and federal law.
McManus was accused of trying to kiss one flight attendant while she was seated during the flight and twice grinding up against her while she was serving in-flight meals, as well as grinding against a second flight attendant. The lawsuit also claimed McManus recruited three other flight attendants to the party, passing out $100 bills to encourage them to drink and dance inappropriately.
A circuit court judge in Florida dismissed the lawsuit in early September, granting a motion from McManus’ attorney for the accusers to reveal their names in the suit. The lawsuit was quickly refiled, but the NFL determined in late September there was “insufficient evidence” that McManus had violated the NFL’s conduct policy, and that the kicker was free to sign with another team.
McManus has denied the allegations from the beginning and said Wednesday that the lawsuit has been resolved.
