The New York Yankees (80-60) have had trouble beating teams that are at or below .500 this season and that continued on Wednesday night as they fell 10-6 to the Texas Rangers (67-73) at Globe Life Field, suffering a third straight series loss and remaining a half-game behind the Baltimore Orioles for first place in the American League East.
Marcus Stroman gave up five runs on nine hits and did not make it out of the fourth inning. In addition to that, the bullpen struggled yet again as Tim Mayza allowed three runs and Ron Marinaccio surrendered two.
Juan Soto smacked a two-run homer in the fifth, his 38th of the season, and that was all of the Yankees’ offense until the ninth when Trent Grisham hit a grand slam with two outs, his eighth homer of the season
The Yankees will get the day off Thursday before opening a three-game series with the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Friday at 2:20 p.m.
