Andy Roddick funnily confesses Roger Federer thing that ‘drove me crazy’

Posted on September 2, 2024 by admin

Andy Roddick made a pretty funny admission on the latest episode of his podcast as the former world No. 1 said he never a person to envy others because of their accomplishments before admitting that he was always jealous of how chill and relaxed Roger Federer always was.

In 2003, the-now American tennis legend had just turned 21 when he beat Juan Carlos Ferrero to become a Grand Slam champion at the US Open.

In the years that followed, Roddick established himself as one of the top players in the game – and made four other Major finals – but never again landed another Slam. And the one to blame for that was the Swiss tennis icon, who beat the American in the 2006 US Open final, as well as in the Wimbledon finals in 2004, 2005 and 2009.

In the end, the Federer ended up winning 21 of their 24 matches.

Roddick on Federer: It just drove me crazy…

“I don’t have a lot of regrets. I don’t envy people for their successes. I am more than happy that these three have won all of the tournaments that they’ve won. I was very jealous and still jealous of Roger because he was the guy I played most in the biggest matches,” the 2003 US Open champion said on the Served with Andy Roddick podcast.

“Just because we were good on the same surfaces at the same time was his ease of operation, it just drove me crazy. Because I could see him on the Saturday before Grand Slam losing to some chucker on our practice court and I walked by and he was smiling, laughing.”

During his prime, the American was a major force on grass courts and reaching three finals at The Championships in six years speaks for itself.

And if not for Federer, Roddick would have likely finished his career with multiple Wimbledon titles.
