Browns vs. Commanders preview: 3 things to know about Cleveland’s Week 5 opponent

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Browns fell to 1-3 on the season with a 20-16 loss on Sunday in Las Vegas to the Raiders.

But the Browns have little time to reflect on this loss as they continue their road trip in Week 5 against one of the hottest teams in the NFL

The Washington Commanders have won three games in a row behind rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. The second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft has thrown three touchdown passes and six incompletions in his last two games, including going 26 of 30 for 233 yards in Washington’s 42-14 blowout of the Cardinals on Sunday.

Four games into his rookie season, Daniels has proven people, including myself, wrong about the Commanders choosing him over Drake Maye

The former Heisman Trophy winner has completed an eye-popping 82.1% of his passes in four games for 897 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He’s also rushed for 218 yards and four touchdowns.

With Daniels running the show, the Commanders are already one win away from matching their total of a season ago. Caleb Williams seems to be figuring things out, but Daniels has been the most impactful rookie so far.

Washington has tried and failed multiple times to find its long-term franchise quarterback, which included another former Rookie of the Year in Robert Griffin III. It’s very early in his career, but Daniels is giving D.C football fans a reason to believe.

Sunday was a first for the Commanders, and not a good one.

Daniels threw an interception in the second the quarter vs. Commanders, which was the first turnover for the Commanders for the entire season.

It’s almost impossible to avoid turnovers over the course of a long season, especially as teams get more of a book on their opponents. But to go nearly four weeks without a turnover to start the season, particularly with a rookie quarterback, is impressive nonetheless.

The Commanders have also only forced two turnovers on defense, meaning they have only seen three combined turnovers for the entire season to this point.
