Cincinnati: Aryna Sabalenka ousts Elina Svitolina, Iga Swiatek destroys No. 15 seed
Aryna Sabalenka has been through to the Cincinnati quarterfinal after overcoming Elina Svitolina in a round-of-16 showdown, while Iga Swiatek made light work of Marta Kostyuk to also reach the last-eight.
Sabalenka, seeded at No. 3, complicated things late in the first set but still managed to win the opener and ultimately get the job done in two sets versus Svitolina 7-5 6-2.
During the match, Sabalenka fired 30 winners and had 16 unforced errors while 2023 Wimbledon semifinalist Svitolina had 14 winners and 17 unforced errors.
For a place in the Cincinnati semifinal, Sabalenka will play next against No. 10 seed Liudmila Samsonova.
Meanwhile, top-seeded Swiatek dropped just four games en route to sealing a 6-2 6-2 win over 15th-seeded Kostyuk to set up a meeting against Mirra Andreeva.
