Former Kentucky QB Will Levis Facing Fan Backlash: Calls to Bench Him Grow Louder

Posted on September 24, 2024 by admin

Green Bay Packers v Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans lost a frustrating game yesterday to the Green Bay Packers 30-14 and fell to 0-3 on the season. As losses mount up, it’s common for the quarterback to take on mounting criticism, and that is precisely where former Wildcat quarterback Will Levis finds himself.

Levis went 26/34 with 260 yards, two touchdowns, 2 INT, and a fumble lost. He also took eight sacks. In many ways, the stat line will tell you that there were some excellent and frustrating moments. The rise in fan reactions to “bench Will Levis” came as the Packers continued to score, and Levis threw another interception.

What made matters worse for Titans fans is that they faced off against Malik Willis of the Green Bay Packers. Willis was the Titans’ quarterback before management decided to move on from him and go to Levis. The quarterback they gave up on became the one who beat them, and the one they kept to build a franchise around continues to turn the ball over. Part of the frustration is that Levis now leads the NFL in turnovers.

In an article on the Sporting News website about whether the Titans should bench Levis or not. Author Dharya Sharma concludes, “Despite the frustrating mistakes and the 0-3 start, the Titans should roll into next week with Levis as the starting quarterback. The 2023 second-round pick doesn’t deserve the majority of the blame for Sunday’s loss, as the defense struggled to contain Malik Willis and the offensive line surrendered eight sacks and has been completely incompetent to begin the season.”

While many Titan fans are calling for the Titans to bench Levis, another group continues to shout about how it’s not entirely his fault. They point out how the offensive line has struggled to protect him (this sounds familiar to Kentucky fans) and how Levis had a 76% completion rate in this game.

The outcry has made its way into the post-game comments and questions from reporters. DeAndre Hopkins was asked if Levis should continue to be the starting quarterback, and he said, “I wouldn’t want anyone else out there on the field (with me), the way he prepares, the way he goes about his day. He’s going to learn from his mistakes. I love the kid.”

The Tennessee Titans are set to take on the Miami Dolphins next week on Monday night football and all eyes will be on Levis and his ability to execute the game plan and help his team win the game. It will be vital for him to let his play on the field silence the critics and turn this season around for the Titans.
