The initial roster for the Oklahoma Sooners in 2024 actually had some really good names on paper on the offensive side of the ball. They had guys who had proven themselves before in a few positions, like wide receiver, running back, quarterback, and even a few offensive line spots.
But injuries stopped everything, pretty much, that and the offensive scheme being as bad as it was. But the one pretty bad position group without any major injuries had to be the tight end position. That group needed to be upgraded this offseason regardless of what the outcome of 2024 was going to be.
And now they can pretty much officially work on that. According to Hayes Fawcett of On3, Sooners tight end Bauer Sharp is entering the transfer portal. Not to be rude, but this is a transfer that won’t really hurt many fans in the fan base with him leaving. His tenure in Norman wasn’t great, and the interception he threw—yes, you read that right—against LSU certainly didn’t help.
The Sooners have been linked to a few big-time tight ends this offseason already, like Luke Hasz at Arkansas, who was initially going to go to Oklahoma two years ago, as he’s from the area. Other tight ends have made the watch list as well.
The Sooners have their hands full over the next few weeks, for sure.
