The Toronto Maple Leafs are a few weeks away from the opening of training camp and still have the unresolved contract situation of restricted free agent Nick Robertson to deal with, but did take care of another unsigned player on Wednesday, as the club announced the signing of center Alex Steeves to a one-year, two-way deal.
The deal was for the league minimum of $775,000 at the NHL level and $300,000 at the AHL level according to Puckpedia, and will make the 24-year-old a Group VI unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
Steeves joined the Leafs in 2021 after three seasons at Notre Dame and scored 23 goals in his first professional season with the AHL Marlies. Last season, the Bedford, New Hampshire native scored a career-high 57 points (27 goals, 30 assists) in 65 games in the AHL and played NHL spot duty for the third year in a row.
