Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan has made history, unofficially.
With a goal against the Oshawa Generals, Cowan extends his point streak to 56 games, unofficially passing Doug Gilmour, who had points in 55 straight games with the Cornwall Royals during the 1982-83 season.
According to The Hockey News’ Ken Campbell, the OHL and CHL will not make Cowan’s point streak official since it spans two seasons. The forward’s 56 consecutive games with a point spans back to Nov. 25, 2023. He has 94 points (38 goals, 56 assists) during the historic streak.
Gilmour, who still technically holds the OHL point streak record, congratulated Cowan on X (formerly known as Twitter) after the forward extended his streak on Friday night with London.

Cowan’s goal against Oshawa was his 15th of the season. He’s now up to 15 goals and 13 assists for 28 points in 20 games this year. The forward’s official point streak is currently at 20 games.
The Maple Leafs selected Cowan in the first round (28th overall) in the 2023 NHL Draft. Two months after the selection, on Aug 11, 2023, the young forward signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the club.
He’s gearing up to represent Team Canada at the World Junior Championships later this month. Cowan was one of 32 players named to Canada’s selection camp, which begins on Monday in Ottawa, Ontario.
The full tournament starts on Boxing Day as Canada faces Finland.
Cowan scored one goal and one assist in five games at the tournament last year. The team had an early exit, though, being eliminated in the quarterfinals by Czechia after falling 3-2.
He said in the summer at Canada’s World Junior Summer Showcase that he hopes to take on more of a leadership role with Canada this year.
“I think I have a lot of stuff under my belt that will help me be a leader this year, be someone that the younger guys can ask, look up to a bit,” the forward told reporters, including TSN’s Mark Masters.
