Kyle Schwarber (left elbow contusion) and J.T. Realmuto (sore left knee) are back in the lineup for Friday’s game against the New York Mets.

The Latest Phillies Injury Updates

  • Austin Hays (kidney infection)
  • Status: 10-day IL
  • Hays was placed on the 10-day IL (retroactive to Sept. 2) on Sept. 5 with a kidney infection. Cal Stevenson was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take his spot on the roster.
  • Hays still hasn’t hit yet, but he continues to throw. He’s feeling better, according to Rob Thomson. On if he expects Hays to return before the end of the regular season, Thomson said, “Possibly.” (Updated by Destiny Lugardo on Sept. 13)

  • Alec Bohm (left hand strain)
  • Status: 10-day IL
  • After six days of keeping him on the active roster with the belief he wouldn’t need an injured list stint, the Phillies placed Bohm on the 10-day IL with a left hand strain Friday. The move is retroactive to Sept. 3, as the maximum you can backdate an IL stint is three days. Infielder Buddy Kennedy has been recalled.
  • Bohm is “coming along,” according to Thomson. He is scheduled to hit on the field on Friday, Sept. 13. Thomson does not believe Bohm is still feeling pain when he swings. The Phillies manager would like to see Bohm go out on a rehab assignment before returning. (Updated by Destiny Lugardo on Sept. 13)
    • Spencer Turnbull (right lat strain)
    • Status: 60-day injured list
    • Turnbull last pitched in a game on June 26 at Detroit. He experienced a setback in mid-August, but is now trying to ramp up in an attempt to make a 2024 comeback as a reliever. He is currently rehabbing at the complex in Clearwater, Fla.
    • Turnbull threw his first live batting practice since the injury on Sept. 13. The next step is to throw another one on Monday. Thomson said he threw around 30 pitches and touched 92 mph on the radar gun.
    • Is he running out of time? “I don’t think so,” Thomson said on Sept. 10. “We’ll keep moving forward.” The next steps include more live batting practice sessions, simulated games and a rehab assignment. (Last updated by Destiny Lugardo on Sept. 13)

    • Edmundo Sosa (back spasms)
    • Status: 10-day IL
    • Edmundo Sosa was placed on the 10-day IL with back spasms prior to the Sunday, Sept. 8 game against the Marlins. The move is retroactive to Sept. 7. Seth Johnson was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take his spot on the roster. Johnson will start Sunday’s series finale against the Marlins.
    • Sosa is doing all non-game activities pregame on Friday, Sept. 13. He’ll run the bases on Saturday. He could go to Triple-A Lehigh Valley for a one-day rehab assignment before being activated. (Last Updated by Destiny Lugardo on Sept. 13)

    • Andrew Painter (Tommy John surgery)
    • Status: Minor league 60-day injured list; Expected back in 2025
    • The No. 1 overall prospect in the Phillies’ minor league system underwent Tommy John surgery on July 25, 2023.
    • Painter threw another live batting practice on Sept. 9 in Clearwater, Fla. (Last Updated by Destiny Lugardo on Sept. 10)

    • Luis Ortiz (Tommy John surgery)
    • Status: 15-day injured list
    • Ortiz underwent successful Tommy John surgery on July 11. (Updated by Destiny Lugardo on July 12)
