“Prayers to Iga Swiatek moots who’ll see this for 7 matches”; “Roger Federer always putting her in trash kits”- Fans react to Pole’s US Open outfit

Iga Swiatek’s unveiling of her kit for the 2024 US Open during her exhibition match at the New York Major’s Fan Week has sparked discussions among tennis fans. The Pole’s sponsors, “On”, backed by Roger Federer, have often received flak from fans for allegedly not doing justice to her kits.

Swiatek, who has arrived in New York ahead of the US Open, recently competed in a fun exhibition match while teamed up with Sebastian Korda. The duo took on Matteo Berrettini and Jasmine Paolini in a mixed doubles match. In a fun yet thrilling 10-point tiebreaker, the Italian pair clinched the win 11-9.

The World No. 1 was seen donning her 2024 US Open outfit. It was a tie-dye-esque jersey and skirt with pink, purple, and blue colors, with the right side of her jersey and skirt in a shade of black.

Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their disappointment with On, with one fan ‘praying’ for Iga Swiatek’s fans who would have to see their favorite player in the kit.

“Thoughts and prayers to iga moots who will see this for 7 matches,” the fan said.

Another fan joked how Roger Federer always makes the Pole wear ‘trash’ kits.

“Federer always putting her in trash kits love that,” the fan joked.

Here are some other reactions from the fans.

“The black doesnt match the color scheme at all,” a fan opined.

“Somehow the night kit looks worse which is very upsetting,” another one wrote.

“When you are in a “make a terrible tennis kit” competition and your opponent is On,” a fan quipped.

“On’s insistence on including the white/black stripe down the side with every gradient kit is crazy like they’re really sabotaging themselves,” another fan opined.

The fans had expressed their dismay at the kits earlier as well when they were released.

Iga Swiatek will be the top seed at the 2024 US Open. The Pole has only competed in one tournament at the North American hard-court swing heading into the New York Major this year, which came at the WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati.

Seeded first, she received a bye in the opening round following which she defeated Varvara Gracheva in a topsy-turvy three-setter. The Pole comfortably defeated 15th seed Marta Kostyuk but then had to dig deep in her quarterfinal against Mirra Andreeva to come back from a set down and oust the 17-year-old.

The 23-year-old was defeated by eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals.

In her last outing at Flushing Meadows, Iga Swiatek lost from a set up to Jelena Ostapenko in the fourth round.
