Red Sox, Padres Linked To Blockbuster Trade For Projected $130 Million Ace

Posted on December 9, 2024 by admin
The Chicago White Sox hold nearly all the superstar power in the trade market this winter. While a few other teams have floated some stars, including Ryan Helsley, Alec Bohm, and Devin Williams, on the trade block, it’s the White Sox’s duo of Luis Robert Jr. and Garrett Crochet that dominate the headlines.

Out of the two, it’s Crochet that’s garnering more attention. His contract is still much smaller and he provides such a great upside that any team would want to bring in. He’s projected to sign a deal worth around $130 million when he finally hits free agency in 2027, per Spotrac.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today recently reported on his trade market, connecting him to two powerhouse contenders this winter.

“The San Diego Padres would love him (Crochet), and have dealt plenty of prospects in the past, but told the White Sox they are hanging onto catcher Ethan Salas and shortstop Leodalis De Vries,” Nightengale wrote. “The (Boston) Red Sox lurk. In the end, the White Sox will trade him to the team that gives them the most prized prospects and hope they never again experience anything like their embarrassing 41-121 season.”

The Padres could look to add another starter. They’ve been heavily connected to Japanese free agent Roki Sasaki, so we may see their attention turn to Crochet if they fail to land Sasaki in the coming weeks.

The Red Sox are reportedly looking to add multiple starters with Crochet and free agent Max Fried seeming like the best two fits. I would expect the Red Sox to turn up the heat and deal from their deep farm system if they miss on Fried in free agency.
