The Atlanta Braves failed to make a deep run in the postseason and now may be at risk of losing one of their best players. The Boston Red Sox could steal a two-time All-Star from the Braves this winter.
While making predictions for the offseason, Bleacher Report’s Erik Beaston predicted to the Red Sox to sign Max Fried after they miss out on Juan Soto.
“As for Fried, the Yankees, Blue Jays, and Red Sox are all keen on acquiring the lefty in hopes of bolstering their rotations,” wrote Beaston. “Landing with them instantly improves their team and puts them in a position to make a postseason run.”
The Red Sox are in the mix to land Soto, so any move for Fried would likely come after he makes a decision. This gives the Braves a chance to lock him up before the Red Sox even have a chance.
Fried is a big part of the Braves recent run of success. He is a two-time All-Star and World Series champion. Last season he had a 3.25 ERA in 29 starts. He struck out 166 batters last season as well.
Spotrac projects Fried to sign a six-year, $136 million deal this winter. He has spent his entire career with the Braves and has set himself up for a big payday. The Red Sox are just one of the teams likely to target Fried. He is one of the best available pitchers. In fact, he may be the second-best available arm behind Corbin Burnes.
