Rob McElhenney Leads Wrexham AFC’s Red Carpet Launch For 2024 U.S. Tour

Posted on July 21, 2024 by admin

Wrexham AFC’s latest U.S. tour was launched in style with a red carpet event on July 18 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. The gathering, celebrating the club’s upcoming 2024 Wrex Coast Tour, was hosted by STok Cold Brew Coffee and saw Wrexham stars mingling with fans and media alongside co-chairman Rob McElhenney.

McElhenney, best known for his role in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, has helped catapult the North Welsh football club into the international spotlight since he and actor Ryan Reynolds took over as co-chairmen in February 2021. Their ownership, coupled with two promotions and the success of the documentary series Welcome to Wrexham, has significantly boosted the club’s global profile.

The red carpet event was more than just a celebration – it marked the beginning of Wrexham AFC’s second U.S. tour. The men’s team, which previously faced off against Manchester United and Chelsea, is now preparing to take on Bournemouth, Chelsea, and the Vancouver Whitecaps during this tour. This year’s tour is notable not only for the men’s team’s matches but also for the inclusion of Wrexham AFC Women’s team, which will be making its debut in the United States.

Among the attendees were Wrexham AFC CEO Michael Williamson, Director Shaun Harvey, Executive Director Humphrey Ker, and Head of Wrexham AFC Women’s Football Operations Gemma Owen. The event also saw Wayne Jones, landlord of The Turf pub, join in the festivities.

The 2024 tour kicked off on July 19, with the Wrexham AFC Women’s team facing SoCal FC at UCLA’s Drake Stadium. The men’s team will then square off against AFC Bournemouth on July 20 at Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara, marking an exciting period for the club and its expanding fan base.

In 2021, McElheny discussed his series Mythic Quest about video gaming company exclusively with uInterview and he it relates to his parenting style.

“I’m the dad that has to like talk about yes, I like video games too, but screen time has to be earned, and I’m taking Stardew Valley out of your hands,” he said. “And Roblox, I’m gonna take Roblox and I’m gonna throw them into the Pacific Ocean, okay, if you don’t get up and fold your laundry.”
