Royal Family LIVE: Prince Harry ‘talking nonsense’ as Duke savaged over Diana claims

Prince Harry at the New York Times DealBook Summit

Prince Harry’s suggestions at an event in New York that he’s doing his mother’s work in taking on the media is “nonsense”, claims The Daily Mail’s Editor at Large, Richard Kay.

The Duke of Sussex opened up about his late mother Diana, the Princess of Wales, in a heartbreaking speech at a key summit where Bill Clinton, Serena Williams and Jeff Bezos were also among the guest speakers at The New York Times DealBook Summit.

Taking to the stage for an interview with New York Times columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin, the prince shared gut-wrenching details about his experience with the media after the death of his mother in 1997.

He added that he found himself “questioning the validity” of information he saw in the press, adding that he started a “war” with the industry after Diana died in a car crash aged just 36 – four years younger than the Duke is now.

Speaking about Harry’s interview, Richard Kay told Palace Confidential: “This idea that she didn’t have relationships with the media who were writing about her is pure and utter nonsense and Harry knows that. Diana made a point of getting to know many journalists. So to suggest that he is doing his mother’s work in taking on the media here is not true.”

Harry and Meghan both attended separate events thousands of miles apart on December 4. Meghan attended a glitzy red-carpet event honouring her friend and filmmaker Tyler Perry in Los Angeles whereas Harry took centre stage at The New York Times Dealbook Summit.
