This is Why  Wrexham will have to submit squad list when window closes.

PHIL PARKINSON says more players need to leave Wrexham before the transfer window closes to gain first-team football so they are not left kicking their heels at The Racecourse for the rest of the year.

Clubs in League One are limited to a 22-man squad, although that number does not include goalkeepers or players who were under the age of 21 – such as defender Aaron James – at the start of the calendar year.

The transfer window closes on Friday August 31 and Parkinson will have to submit his squad to the EFL the following month.

Having added to the ranks for the Reds’ first season in the third tier for 19 year after clinching back-to-back promotions, Parkinson, who has not ruled out making more new signings, currently has more than 22 players to select his squad from.

Anyone who fails to make the cut and still with Wrexham will only be able to feature in cup games until clubs are allowed to change their squad list when the January transfer window opens.

Midfielder Jordan Davies has already left to join Grimsby Town on a season-long loan and Parkinson expects more to follow if they are not part of his plans and go in search of regular football elsewhere.

“There may be one or two leaving before the window closes,” said the Reds’ boss.

“It’s a similar situation to Jordan. There are certain players who need to now go and push for a first-team place elsewhere, and that could happen before the window closes.

“With Welsh FA rules, after the window closes we can’t loan players out into the National League so the ones who we are looking to go into that level have to go before the window closes if they are going to go at all.”
