Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold is linked heavily with Real Madrid. But now a surprise offer involving Reece Jams could change everything.
As everyone is aware, Real Madrid want Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Scouser’s contract expires in June, meaning he can formally agree terms with a non-English club from January 1st.
In other words, a little over a month from now.
That has people panicking, as you’d expect. Alexander-Arnold is arguably the most valuable asset Liverpool have, given his age and ability. Yet they’re set to lose him for nothing as things stand.
Real Madrid are looking to pounce on that. They never miss signing a superstar, particularly on a free transfer. They’ve got extra incentive, too, with Dani Carvajal out for the season with a serious knee injury – he may never return as the same player.
David Ornstein makes it clear, though – Liverpool want to renew Alexander-Arnold’s contract. They’re just not particularly close to doing so and there’s certainly interest from Spain.
Reece James offer
But here’s a twist. TheBootRoom reports that Chelsea are now looking to offload Reece James on the cheap.
They’re finding their captain isn’t really up to what they’re after, while Malo Gusto is very much up to it. The Frenchman is shining – and set for a new contract.
But that leaves James without a place and Chelsea are now offering him up to other clubs. They’ve set a crazy asking price of just £20m if someone wants to take their captain off their hands.
Now, Real Madrid are said to be interested here. They could use a right-back in January, while Lucas Vazquez’s availability would ease the pressure on James to play every week.
But in doing so, they’d almost certainly back out of any more for Alexander-Arnold. There’s no need to sign both, after all.
This is a very interesting one, then. James is up for grabs, reportedly, and Real Madrid are in the market for him. At a bargain price, Chelsea could have changed the future here.
