Vancouver Canucks Rise in Recent Super 16 Power Rankings by NHL

The Vancouver Canucks are on the rise in a recent power rankings list that was released by the writers at NHL.com.

Since the most recent Super 16 power rankings on NHL.com, the Vancouver Canucks have played quite well, with a 2-0-1 record to wrap up their six-game road trip.

In those three games, the Canucks defeated the Buffalo Sabres and Detroit Red Wings, before falling to Kirill Kaprizov and the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday, December 3rd.

With a successful road trip under their belt, the Canucks returned home to Rogers Arena on Friday night where they hosted the Columbus Blue Jackets, with a rise in a recent power rankings waiting for them

Vancouver Canucks move up in NHL.com’s Super 16 power rankings

On Thursday, NHL.com released their Super 16 power rankings, with the Vancouver Canucks moving up one spot to 11th place on their list.

Each week there’s a different theme to the power rankings list and for their most recent edition, it had to do with ‘Glue Guys’, who they describe as someone who isn’t a star, but does everything asked of them to help their team earn success.

‘Kiefer Sherwood was far from a heralded acquisition when the forward signed a two-year, $3 million contract July 1, but he’s become a dependable, physical force contributing in all areas. His six even-strength goals are third on the Canucks behind Pius Suter (eight) and Jake DeBrusk (seven), with two of them game-winners. He has a plus-5 even-strength goal differential and has been on the ice for 18 even-strength goals, fourth among Vancouver forwards. He also leads the NHL with 150 hits.’ Adam Kimelman of NHL.com said.He added, ‘The Canucks got to know Sherwood well last season when he played against them with the Nashville Predators during the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, when he scored a goal and led Nashville with 33 hits in six games while averaging just 11:58 of ice time. He’s up to 14:33 per game now, and seemingly making an impact every shift.’

Heading into next week’s Super 16 power rankings, the Vancouver Canucks will have another opportunity to rise, following a win on Friday over Columbus and games against Tampa Bay (today) and St. Louis (Tuesday), certainly winnable for Rick Tocchet’s group.
